Network Sharing : sharing [search folders] is kind of misleading
When sharing a [search folder] in Vista, Win7 and Win2k8, you think you only share 1 item, but in fact you share a whole path !
lets say I share [Recent Documents] in my [search folders] - whats actually being shared is the whole path to the directory:
\\<Computer>\Users\<User>\Searches
Why is this so ???
What I'd really like to do, is to make standard shared folders in my computer-root on the LAN... thereby enabling my WDTV-Live (Network Video streamer) to see files in that folder...
eg.
\\<Computer>\New Files of this Week\
when sharing my custom made searchfolder : "datemodified:lastweek name:*.mkv|*.wmv|*.avi"
thanks for any replies.

You just need to right-click on the folder, click on the Sharing tab, click Advanced Sharing button and choose Share this folder.Arthur Xie - MSFT

What version of Windows 7, Vista or 2008 are you on ?
I can't get that menu in my systems on a Searchfolder
im talking about the search folders in /Users/<User>/Searches/

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. All versions should have this option.

Ahhh okay !
Not the solution i was looking for - but it might just do the trick !
What i was trying to do, was to share the actual search in the folder, which would give me better control of what files are shared.
i guess that's impossible...
purhaps i could make a folder of searches instead, and share that...
edit:
HAHA... When you execute a search from a remote computer, the search is performed on the client, rather then the server !..

The Search folder is actually a tool. Not a record or storage of the local system. Therefore it will function on the computer you run it.Arthur Xie - MSFT
